Microwave Heating of Low-Absorbing Solvents Utilizing Passive Heating Elements

Introduction

With the growing numbers of microwave instruments used in chemistry labs, performing microwave-mediated organic reactions even in nonpolar or low-absorbing solvents becomes of increasing interest. When microwave-transparent reaction vessels are used and the solvent has only low coupling efficiency the introduced energy might be absorbed by sensitive parts of the equipment and could damage vessels, rotors or sensors.
